BD Architect of the Year Finalist

14 July 2020

We're delighted to have been shortlisted in the Retail & Leisure category for Architect of the Year Awards (Building Design), the only awards to reward architects for a consistent body of work throughout the year.

The team has delivered a number of first class facilities during the last 12 months, of specific note are:

Alderley Park Sports Centre: contained within a simple cost-effective envelope, the building takes cues from its woodland setting by incorporating vertical timber fins and stone gabions within the dramatic black facades to lift the design and provide a building with a unique character and identity, a real sense of place.

Tameside Wellness Centre: a bold design with a focus on public health, wellbeing, activity and fun incorporating swimming pools, a health suite, a fitness suite and multi-purpose studios. A first-floor courtyard accommodates outdoor health and fitness and sensory garden. The scheme is focused around the central ‘social interaction space’ combining catering, performance area and library.

Formby Leisure Centre: an extension which has been designed to fit seamlessly with the existing pool building. An asymmetrical monopitch roof design was chosen to mirror form of the existing pool hall building and to provide a distinctive end to the building, without challenging the original design concept.

Adventure Parc Snowdonia: the adventure hub is welcoming thrill seekers of all ages looking for their next sporting fix. The building, originally a soft play area for young children, has been extended five-fold through, a vast structure immersed by natural light with its signature glazed tower now dwarfs the original scheme. It’s been designed as a really dynamic building to match the exhilarating adventures and challenges on offer inside.

Fingers crossed as we await the award ceremony in October.
