The first 25 years

Something special happened in 1983. At the age of 39, Peter Pozzoni launched our practice and set down roots with an office in Knutsford. The aspiration of creating a firm based on his developing ideas of architectural and commercial quality, commitment and ambition, whilst being a good employer, formed the beginnings of the ‘Pozzoni ethos’.

Back then we were known as Pozzoni Design Group and the practice quickly secured commissions on an ever-expanding range of projects. Work on numerous church and school schemes for both Shrewsbury and Liverpool Dioceses, plus social housing projects with large providers such as Anchor Housing Trust continued at speed. Major commercial refurbishments also saw the launch of two new newspaper production facilities for Today and the Warrington Post, the very first colour daily and regional newspapers respectively.

Just a few years later, in 1989, Peter offered David Hughes a partnership. David had joined the practice as project architect five years earlier (he still has a copy of his job offer letter!) and subsequently helped Peter to diversify into several new sectors, including care, retirement living, offices, leisure and further education.

With this expansion came relocation to establish the current head office, Woodville House, in Altrincham in 1997.

By 2007, the practice had grown further and subsequently became Pozzoni LLP, recognised by the Architects’ Journal in the top 100 architectural practices in the UK. It was at this time Peter retired from the business, leaving in place a legacy of quality, purpose and ambition that still underpins the business today.

Pozzoni Architecture is now led by a team of five directors; Nigel, Jamie, Catherine, Martin and Andrew, that collectively have been with the practice for 90 years.
