Championing sustainability and Passivhaus design

18 April 2023

This weekend [22. April] marks Earth Day which is a global campaign to demonstrate and promote environmental awareness.

With sustainability being at the forefront of minds at Pozzoni, it is something that we aim to incorporate throughout our projects as well as how we operate as a business. Championing this internally is our ‘green team’ working group; people from across all our sector teams who continually strive for ways we can be increasingly more sustainable, as well as researching new initiatives and challenging design development. More recently, in-house Passivhaus Designers have been certified which is another service we are able to offer our clients.

Longshaw Drive in Salford is the first Passivhaus housing project in the office and a scheme we have been working on for the last couple of years with works now commencing on site. With client aspirations for the scheme not to look traditionally ‘Passivhaus’ in design, the challenge has been to balance aesthetics as well as energy performance and commercial viability.

The importance of being able to offer Passivhaus to our clients couldn’t be more critical. Even if projects aren’t being certified, we have the knowledge and experience to apply best design principles to our projects. At a time where the cost of living is at its highest, it has never been so important to improve building performance so that new residents can benefit from lower energy costs at such challenging times, in addition to reducing environmental impact.
