The Avenue School facility is for children and young people aged between five and 18 and meets the growing demand for special school places by further improving provision for pupils with Autism and complex needs within the London Borough of Brent.

The new school is located on a tight urban site surrounded by residential housing and, at 0.713 acres, it falls below the recommended BB104 area requirement for a 104-place SEN school. To overcome this shortfall the four-storey design solution includes a series of terraces used for external learning on the upper floors. Study areas incorporate focus rooms, and there are a number of therapy rooms which will include a specialist water playroom and other shared amenities including a gym.

The Avenue’s provision focuses on communication, literacy, mathematics, and social and emotional skills to enrich our pupils’ lives and prepare them to be active members of society. On this basis the new scheme includes a community work experience café to ensure social interaction and skills development.

Initially there will be a cohort of up to 24 pupils between the ages of four and 14, which will then grow to incorporate its full age range and reach capacity by 2023.
