Housing
Size: 106 apartments
Location: Gorton, Manchester
Status: Complete

This recently completed scheme provides 106 accessible and adaptable apartments with communal facilities located centrally to the residents. The range of facilities and flexible spaces have been provided so the needs of the needs of the area can be met at any given time.

The scheme not only fulfils the vision for providing special needs housing but will improve the health of older people within the community due to the high level of specialised care that will be offered.

The site has been landscaped to provide a public, semi-public and private realm. The public facilities are designed to be enjoyed by the local community, drawing them into the site and towards the hub area where facilities, such as a hair salon, community rooms and a bistro will be available.

A raft of increased environmental and energy saving measures, such as ground source heating and electric car charging points, will make the building around a third more efficient meaning lower bills and carbon emissions.

Gorton Mill House was shortlisted for the Inside Housing Development Awards 2021 'Best older people's housing development (urban)' category.

This scheme is born from a great need and demand for extra care facilities in this area. It will create a wonderful community and environment tailored for older residents, whilst freeing up other much-needed homes for young families too.

We’ve designed this development with help from other local organisations to ensure that it provides something which really adds to the community and has regenerative effects on the neighbourhood.
