This award winning care village was developed to provide specialist care, independent living and amenities for both the village residents and local community.

The site was partly occupied by an existing Grade II listed building. This has been converted to a heritage gallery and community hub, hosting tea dances, entertainment, guest musicians and other activities, presenting a design challenge for integrating the existing and new elements.

Heritage lottery funding was received to restore the listed building, which had been heavily altered over many decades. The footprint of the original building has been re-established, along with the principal room layout and important interior features.

The new facility takes cues from the architectural features of the listed building, including tall proportioned windows, stone banding, brick detailing, a defined façade and deep-set chamfered windows.

The heritage gallery and community hub is attracting local people, fostering local talent and contributing to the cultural life of the village residents and the wider local area.
