A new residential development across a 2.3-acre site has been proposed, on behalf of Trafford Council. Fronting the Bridgewater Canal, the 53 new homes will be located on the prominent Lacy Street car park and former Royal Mail sorting office. Connecting the Stretford Mall masterplan and the canal, a pedestrian and cycle way has been created linking green space on the corner of A56 and a new public realm canal side.
Consisting of two, three and four-bedroom houses and two-bedroom apartments, with the tallest structures reaching a maximum height of three-storeys, the development adopt a fabric first approach and will include 14 affordable homes designed to be thermally efficient giving residents access to EV charging facilities.
This is a crucial site and forms part of the overall Stretford masterplan. Like all areas of the UK, there is a huge shortage of housing here and I am delighted this application has been given the go-ahead.
We have consulted closely with residents on this development which meets our house building priorities on brownfield sites as well as our commitments to the environment. This scheme is another huge boost to the overall development of Stretford town centre and I would like to say thank you to all our partners involved in bringing it forward.
