Code for Sustainable Homes
The Code for Sustainable Homes is the Government’s Environmental Assessment Method for new build housing. It provides individual dwellings with a star rating based on its energy and water use, waste and surface water run-off reduction, site ecology and materials as well as other ‘health and well being’ factors such as access to private space and daylight levels. A higher rating represents a more sustainable home with the maximum 6 stars being awarded only to zero carbon homes.
Formal assessments are required for all developments funded by the Homes and Communities Agency but are also increasingly being requested by Local Authorities as a planning condition.
Pozzoni has been designing and assessing houses to the Code for Sustainable Homes since its inception in 2007. We have successfully achieved Level 4 of the Code on small schemes of just 6 new build bungalows right up to larger sites with over 100 dwellings. This is in addition to numerous Code 3 housing schemes across the UK.
We are able to provide Code for Sustainable Homes assessments at design and/or post construction stage for our own projects and others. As part of the assessment process, we can offer daylight calculations and Low and Zero Carbon Feasibility Studies which appraise renewable energy options for specific developments. Pozzoni is licensed by Stroma Certification and the Building Research Establishment (BRE) who are both approved by the Department for Communities and Local Government to provide independent third party quality assurance of these assessments to ensure a high standard is maintained.
