Boughton Centre, Chester
To develop a proposal for the development of the existing Boughton Retail Centre. The site, approximately 1.35 ha, on the edge of the city centre has been identified as a key site within the Local Authority's Boughton Canal Corridor brief and represents a major opportunity to provide a comprehensive neighbourhood facility to serve the Boughton area.
In response to the site analysis carried out, a series of opportunities have been identified:
- the potential for active frontage to Boughton Road
- creation of a new active frontage to the Shropshire Union Canal
- creation of a new public realm link across the site, linking the canal and Boughton Road
- creation of a built form that takes advantage of the dual aspect of the site
The proposals represent a major opportunity for the regeneration of the existing Boughton Centre and its integration into the council's wider plans for the Boughton Canal Corridor and we believe the ideas we are seeking to promote reflect the design aspirations as set out by the council. It is proposed that the scheme will be a substantial and sustainable phased mixed use development providing:
- a new retail centre, including mix of unit sizes and use classes
- new office accommodation
- new Health Centre
- new public space, providing access to the Shropshire Union Canal side from Boughton Road
