Farnham Leisure Centre
Farnham Leisure Centre is an existing facility situated within the town centre and offers the usual mix of wet and dry sports facilities. The building is sited in a hollow from the one way street which curves away from the front elevation. The scheme, which was won in competition, asked for increased fitness suite provision and improved changing facilities as well as overall modernisation and refurbishment.
Critical to the success of our proposals is Farnhams sense of identity and the ability to express the activities within to passers by 24 hours a day.
A striking new two storey extension in pre patinated copper and glass on the front elevation provides a larger foyer, reception and cafe/seating area at ground floor, whilst an extended fitness suite at first floor level provides active frontage to the street. Utilising angles and materials similar to those on the existing Centre as well as use of light and intelligent orientation makes the extension both strikingly different yet visually coherent.
Internally, wet and dry side changing areas have been fully refurbished and extended, whilst under utilised squash courts have been transformed into flexible studio spaces and treatment rooms. The gym now offers 80 stations.
Farnham now gives visitors a far greater quality leisure experience. All spaces have been fully refurbished and redecorated and is a vast improvement on the original provision. The extension gives the centre a real wow factor and draws attention to the building for the first time.
Farnham has won the 'Alterations and Conversions' award in the Waverley Design Awards 2011.
