Saighton CE Primary School is a popular, volunteer-aided, school and is also a Grade II listed building located in a Village Conservation Area.

The new classroom extension takes design inspiration from the rural village community and other farm buildings that surround the village, hence its name ‘The Learning Shed’.

The transition from the traditional architecture of the existing building to the design of the new classroom block was made by following the rectangular form of the existing school with a steep dual-pitched roof. Horizontal timber cladding is used to join the two.

The result is an example of contemporary architecture design that both functions as a teaching space and sits comfortably next to a historic listed building.
