St Peters Primary

Pozzoni design makes the grade

22 June 2011

Planning approval has been granted for our redevelopment of St Peter’s CE Primary School in Leigh.

The school is currently split across 2 sites. The planned scheme involves moving the infant school onto the junior school site in a new purpose built building, thereby creating a complete 2 form entry primary school on one site. By joining the two departments onto the one site and repositioning the main entrance it will provide separate pedestrian and vehicle entrances, creating a safer environment not just for the school children, but for the community as a whole.

The concept gives both halves of the school new facilities, with the ‘u’ shape of the new infant department creating a heart shaped space for the school playground that is directly accessible from both the infant and junior departments. All elements of a normal school day have been reviewed ensuring flows from one area to another are smooth and safe.

The new building contains resource and hall space that can be opened up to the community, a pre-school and 6 no infant classrooms, as well as improved play space useable by both parts of the school.

Head Teacher, Pat Jolley says “We love this concept, it’s like a little village and very pupil friendly. Not only does it mean the whole school will be on one site, easing administrative and time constraints, but it creates a stable and familiar environment for the children throughout their early learning years.”

The School and Governors are currently waiting for funding to be approved.
