Industrial Sector Case Study: Windrush Millennium Centre, Moss Side, Manchester Client: Moss Side & Hulme Community Development Trust Cost: £2.7m

Objectives Supported by Manchester City Council and the Millennium Commission the prime objective was to replace the Trust’s tired and run down premises with brand new state of the art administration and teaching facilities. Also to include the provision of lettable start up business units to maximise the benefit to the local community of Moss Side. Our View Working on a brownfield site, we created a horseshoe arrangement to provide a distinctive modern frontage to the existing streetscape, whilst offering the security of internal overlooking. Internally the office building provides an open plan reception area that offers a communal seating and waiting area along with access to the building’s shared facilities. Upper floors contain lettable offices and IT learning suites organised off a central corridor. Results Completed on time and within the tight budget, this development fulfils the Trust’s ambitions to provide a contemporary and sustainable base from which to provide facilities for the people of Moss Side and Hulme, and is already fully let.
