Objectives
To develop a high profile contextual
apartment building within the conservation
area of a busy market town.
To ensure the commercial efficiency of the
scheme, whilst taking consideration of the
position within the local fabric of
established leafy streets next to the
historic Town Hall building.
To manage a high level of interest from
the Local Planning Authority and various
civic groups.
Our View
We felt it was essential to begin by
studying the design and fabric of the local
buildings, particularly the Arts and Crafts
style Town Hall and attractive adjacent
Edwardian houses.This informed our
elevational treatment with its use of
Cheshire brick and timbered bays.
On the more private courtyard elevations
we were able to open up the building with
a series of French doors and balconies
looking onto a sunny courtyard garden.
The research also extended to the actual
target market, with feedback influencing
the interior layout and a more
contemporary feel to the interior design.
The Results
An inclusive relationship with Trafford
Planning Department and local civic
groups resulted in a smooth and timely
approval process. |
