Education Sector Case Study:
St Peter & Paul High School,
Widnes
Client: Trustees to the Archdiocese of Liverpool
Cost: £6m

Objectives

We worked with the school to prepare a development plan for a new build high school in place of two existing schools, each of which had insufficient floor area to accommodate rising
pupil numbers.

The existing teaching facilities were a mix of single and multi-storey accommodation built during the 1960s and 1970s. A core feature of the brief was that the new building should be of architectural quality both internally and externally, using
traditional materials and construction methods.

Our View
We felt it was important to work closely with the school governors and teaching staff in order to ensure that we were providing a teaching environment which would meet not only the current but future needs of the school.

The new three storey structure provides a mix of general teaching class bases for sixth form studies plus an IT suite and library. Each teaching space was carefully planned in consultation with the school heads of department.

The Results
This has proved a great success, fulfilling all objectives. We continue to be involved with the school, providing new accommodation and enhancements, including a new city learning centre, sports hall and music room.
